drawing and coloring Progress

I was testing out some coloring styles and I like this portrait I was doing. So I scanned it so, even if the coloring didn't turn out in a way I liked, I'd still have a scan of it before coloring.

oops, I didn't make a scan of the first simple outlines, that would've been fun to see.

uncle Sjoerd

Here's a portrait I did of my 'uncle' Sjoerd. It was a request by a family member for his birthday.

During that same period, I also made some portraits of another family friend and her partner. Unfortunately I don't have scans of those (only some in progress pics, no finished product) but I'll post them if I do get those.

from the USA to South Korea

It has already been quite a while since a friend of mine asked me to draw a portrait of his parents.

He has been studying in the USA for 10 years and has not been able to go back to see his parents in Korea. They have visited him and his brother, but as you can imagine, they still don't see each other in person that often...

So to show his appreciation towards them, he asked me to draw their portrait.

So I did, with his help, this is the result.

Today I handed them to the customers, it was so good to see they genuinely liked them! :D

all of these portraits were commissioned by the parents of these boys.

the first 20x20cm commission: sweet sixteen

These two portraits were my first commission in this size, I got requested to make a portrait of this girl for her 16th birthday by her mum.

I made two portraits because I wasn't satisfied with the first one, the second one turned out much better luckily. :D

(they were both sold however because the mum thought they still look nice together ;D as a pair)

these are two sisters, I was asked to make these portraits for their mother's birthday.

In about a week or so, I might be able to show the first portrait I did in this size (20x20cm).. stay tuned! ;)

One Shot step by step

I often make scans when I'm working on a portrait. I started doing that because I really liked how one portrait looked at one point but.. I still had to do the glasses, and I was afraid I'd ruin the portrait with that.. so I made a scan so I would still have the good one stored on my pc. later I figured it was fun to scan during the work. I can say it's so you can see the progress, but mostly it's just funny to see a drawing 'grow'. :p

Christmas portraits

This is a selection of portraits I made for my family's Christmas dinner. These portraits are a bit different from the ones I usually make, and not only because they've got Christmas-themed background colors, neen. In these portraits I also drew lines with pen after finishing the colors and such, this can make them look more like drawings instead of paintings, and more detailed. I think.

the concept is to draw portraits of my friends in one shot (hence the name), most of them take about 30 minutes ^^ I cannot erase anything and cannot add stuff later on, so I try to give it my best in one shot and learn from it!
